The location for this event is historic Hospital Point located on NSA Hampton Roads better known as Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP). The historic original hospital, built in 1836 with its white Greek columns will serve as an backdrop for the evening’s festivities. The other three sides of Hospital Point are surrounded by water. “Uncorked” sits on the 50 yard line of 2012 events occurring in the Elizabeth River and is also the (formerly) best kept secret from where to observe the evening’s fireworks display.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and the evening kicks off with local favorite, the Jim Newsom Band, providing jazz selections under the band shell. At 7 p.m., the Virginia Symphony will begin their set with a rendition of the national anthem while the NMCP Color Guard presents the colors. The Virginia Symphony will roll into two hours of patriotic-themed selections until the event concludes at 9:30 p.m. with a display of fireworks over the Elizabeth River.
